Citrus Deli Review

| September 2, 2012

There is nothing better than biting into a great sandwich, enjoying fresh and tasty side dishes and being able to purchase a meal without bankrupting your finances. One new deli that has everything a great deli should have is Citrus Deli located a few doors down from the Albertson’s market on Redlands Blvd. Once the site of a Quiznos sandwich shop, this family owned and operated restaurant is a shining example that if you start with quality products, the results will rise above the others

The menu is nicely noted on a blackboard with a variety of cold and hot sandwiches, salads, freshly made soups, wraps and Naan pizzas. For my first sandwich, I chose the Italian Sub and the Chicken Salad Sandwich. All sandwiches are available for $4.99 for a small sandwich and $7.99 for a large sandwich. You can personalize each sandwich with yours choice of rolls & breads, cheeses, meats, condiments and fresh veggies. You may think this is a clone of a Subway store but believe me when I tell you that the food served here has no resemblance to other large chain sandwich shops. The Italian Sub consisted of a large portion of sliced Italian salami, pepperoni and capicola, homemade Italian dressing and your choice of fillings. I choose lettuce, tomatoes, peppercinis and sliced onions. The sandwich was delicious while the soft hearty wheat roll really complemented all of the wonderful goodies that was stuffed inside.

The chicken salad Sandwich featured lots of moist white chicken breast meat tossed with celery, green onion and a special mayo sour cream dressing and was absolutely delicious.

Next came the popular Meatball Sandwich, meatballs smothered in a homemade marinara sauce with provolone cheese, the classic Reuben Sandwich, lots of slices of lean corned beef with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing on toasted rye bread and the incredible Chile Verde Burrito. Now before I describe this burrito, you should know that owners Russell and Judy Barnes and their son Chris have competed and have won numerous awards for their Salsas, Sancho Blanco Chile Verde Sauce, and their zesty Chili and for their Red Chile Sauce.

They also won $10,000 at a celebrity food show completion and have been invited to compete in many national and world championship food competitions, so these people really know food.

The Chile Verde Burrito consisted of large chunks of pork smothered both inside the flour tortilla and on the top of the burrito with a fantastic green chili, garlic and tomato based sauce that was loaded with layers of flavors and a burrito that should not be overlooked.

Another unique item is their Indian Naan bread pizza that are made fresh from a local Indian restaurant and topped with your choice of creamy spinach artichoke spread with your choice of meats, cheese and veggies, a BBQ Chicken pizza with sliced red onions and cheese and a pizza with Italian Sausage, cheese and veggies. All three pizzas are enough for one person to devour and are only $5.49. I suggest getting the garlic Naan since garlic adds a nice delicate taste to all of the pizzas.

Other sandwiches I recommend include the ultimate simple comfort sandwich, the Peanut Butter Sandwich with sliced banana and honey on white bread, their delicious and mildly spicy award winning all meat Chili with cheese and diced onions and all of their wonderful freshly made side salads including their Cole Slaw with onions, dried cranberries, and roasted pecans, the fantastic Red Potato Salad with green onions, shredded cheese, bacon and homemade ranch dressing , the palate pleasing Macaroni Salad with sweet peppers, chopped olives, celery, onions and chopped pickles and the unique Turkey Waldorf Salad, chunks of turkey with apples, walnuts, cranberries and celery in their house creamy mayo sour cream dressing.

They just added some cold refreshing Smoothies to their menu as well as some delightful rich slices of crumb cake, moist and tasty muffins and East coast favorite, large Black & White Cookies and Chocolate Dipped Macaroon cookies.

I have eaten here numerous times and have enjoyed every item I have ordered. Citrus Deli is truly a great restaurant to dine at or have them cater your next business or social event. In addition to delicious food, the portions are on the large side and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality of food that you get.
